We review Third Space's new Lift class

A lifting masterclass for kettlebell novices
Lift off: Third Space’s new weights class will help you master your technique
14 August 2019

When and where

Third Space’s Soho studio, Thursdays at 6pm.

What’s the drill?

A 45-minute weights class focusing on strength — perfect if you’re a lifting novice. The instructor, Daisy, coaches you through each move and works the room correcting form. You’ll do four rounds of three exercises (a summary is written on the mirror at the front), from deadlifts with kettlebells to dumbbell press-ups. You can watch a video of the class here.

The skinny

Squat, press and lunge your way through a class and you’ll tone up, fast. You’ll quickly notice your progression if you go every week.

The social network

Prince Harry and David Beckham are members, but the Thursday night crowd is mostly young professionals and creative Soho types. Happily, it’s a pretty even split of men and women.

Instructor appeal

Daisy usually does the Thursday class. She’s serious and sweet-natured, encouraging you to lift heavy and push your rep count. She demonstrates the moves before each round of exercises and tells you which weights to get at the start.

What to pack

Towels and water are provided so just bring your own bottle.

The sounds

Daisy’s heavy beats will push you through those final reps and you can find the playlist on Third Space’s Spotify. She times her countdowns to the music.

Locker-room chat

The most palatial changing rooms in Soho, spacious and air-conditioned, with showers kitted out with Cowshed products. Expect Dove deodorant, micellar water and cotton pads by the lockers, plus hairdryers and ghd straighteners. Salads, shakes and protein bars are available in the lobby.

Tips for first timers

Arrive early to gather your weights; Daisy will tell you which combination of kettlebells and dumbbells to pick up. She keeps

an eye out for new members and gives you tips on form throughout the class.

The afterburn

You’ll leave energised and surprisingly sweaty. You’ll still feel it in your arms, shoulders and core two days later.
