Living with anxiety in a fast-paced city is a struggle for many. For some, without any support, this can prove to be an even bigger challenge impacting on their mental health.

The UN predicts by 2050 that current anxiety figures globally will increase by two-thirds as 50 per cent of the world’s population currently lives in cities.

So how can we offer more support to those in need and counteract this impending epidemic? A revolutionary app called Thinkladder is launching in the UK to help to cover this very support gap.

Here's everything you need to know about the app:

What is the app?

After trending as the number one app in New Zealand's download charts - this app is now making waves in the UK.

A couple from New Zealand, Matt and Katie Gatt, left their jobs to make the app, which is based on encouraging healthier thought patterns.

They were motivated to create an easily accessible and affordable tool that teaches people how to form healthier thought patterns – working together with writers, therapists and creative individuals.

How does the app work?

Currently priced at £2.99, the app is aiming to eliminate the way negative thoughts are formed and triggered. There are four therapeutic functions based on cognitive behavioural therapy to tackle this issue.

The first step requires users to choose a theme they identify with, from perfectionism to people pleasing.

Then a set of questions is generated within the theme and users are required to scroll through typical symptoms people identify with in that particular theme.

After this a list of unhelpful beliefs will appear on the screen and users have the choice to challenge these subconscious thoughts, which they believe hold them back.

Finally a list of insights can be added to the users’ galleries so they can read these along their journey and form positive thoughts – forming new cognitive pathways.

How can I download it?

The app is available on smartphones via iTunes or here.
