Relaxing hair rehab at John Carne
Cold and frosty nights and foggy mornings mean just one thing for hair: frizz. Mine was lank, dull and frizz-licious when I checked out the John Carne salon in Knightsbridge. A three-salon franchise with two branches in Wimbledon and Guildford, Carne offers a seasonal treatment menu to gives manes exactly what they need at particular times of the year.
Mine, I was told, was in need of some Autumnal calm, so a Holiday Hair Rehab Treatment it was. There were all kinds of techy things that salon co-owner Sean told me about Schwarzkopf Seah Black Pearl helping smooth particles and moisture and sealing in the shine, but frankly by that point I'd zoned out due to the oh-so-relaxing massage chair. I've tried ones before that feel like a pneumatic drill in the back: this one was so perfect that, alongside the amazing 15-minute head massage, I'd half dozed off before the cool sparkling water rinse roused me back to reality.
The salon has a special room for hair-spa treatments, with calming mood lighting and none of the clamour of the blow-dries upstairs. It was incredibly relaxing.
Back in the stylist's chair, it was blow dry time. I couldn't believe how quickly my hair was blasted into happy health. As my mane was tamed, straightened and tucked into a cute bob, it became clear those magic black pearls must do something to the follicles. I left the Knightsbridge salon just half an hour after entering - but able to swan into the wet sticky night with no fear. A fabulously relaxing and effective treatment.
