What is a Henley and why should I be wearing one?

‘A Henley looks like a polo shirt without a collar, is usually made from jersey and can be long- or short-sleeved,’ says Clare Freeman, who designs them for Sunspel. The name comes from the rowing shirts worn at the Henley Royal Regatta, and posh-school cool is very much on the button this summer. A Henley can be worn as a vest, T-shirt or beneath an unbuttoned denim or plaid shirt. This David Beckham Bodywear version (above) from H&M is £20. Higher quality/price versions can be found at John Smedley.

Gatsby at Brooks Brothers

The Great Gatsby film is going to spark a get-the-look frenzy. Brooks Brothers has produced a Gatsby Collection with the film’s costume designer (and wife of director Baz Luhrmann) Catherine Martin. Cream suits, bow ties, contrast waistcoats, correspondent shoes and a natty bottle-green ‘jardigan’ are all available from this week. 150 Regent Street, W1 (020 3238 0030)
