Dan Rookwood wades in on the red trouser debate

Where do you stand on the red trousers debate?

According to a study last month by pollsters YouGov, 46 per cent of the UK don’t like red trousers; 24 per cent hate them. Yeah, well, those people are numpties. OK, red strides can occupy the Venn diagram intersection between toff and hipster (Google ‘lookatmyfuckingredtrousers’). But as Joe Ottaway, menswear stylist at Selfridges, says: ‘Coloured trousers worn instead of blue denim or khaki chinos open up many more wardrobe permutations, unlocking new looks.’ I’m firmly in the red corner. For something nouveau rouge, try Tommy Hilfiger, Gap or Urban Outfitters.

Bremont Watches

Giles English (above right, with his brother Nick), who was recently seriously injured after crash-landing a vintage biplane, can be credited with bringing award-winning watchmaking back to Britain. Their company’s latest watch, the Codebreaker, has been made using parts from a recovered Enigma machine from Bletchley Park. Get better soon, Giles. (bremont.com)
