Royal warrant holder Fortnum and Mason is set to bring their quintessentially British wares abroad with the launch of their very first overseas store. Located on Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour waterfront, the move marks a massive change for the retailer and is the first time in its 312 year history that it has opened a store internationally.

While Fortnum & Mason’s products can be purchased abroad from various department stores, the new 7,000 square foot Hong Kong establishment will be solely dedicated to the brand. Housed in Hong Kong’s upcoming $2.6 billion K11 Musea development at Victoria Dockside, the store will be located just a stone’s throw from the city’s iconic landmarks including the Star Ferry and Avenue of Stars. It is set to open later this September.

The brand revealed in a social media post that the space would also house a restaurant, which would overlook Hong Kong’s iconic skyline and serve afternoon tea. Fortnum & Mason said, “We’re delighted to announce the opening of a unique Fortnum & Mason restaurant and retail destination in the heart of Hong Kong, an exciting evolution in our 312-year history. Opening this September, the beautifully designed space will feature an edit of Fortnum’s most iconic products, from tea and biscuits to champagne and hampers, with a stunning restaurant above, giving spectacular views over Hong Kong harbour.”

The move follows in the footsteps of its competitor Twinings, which has been in Hong Kong for several years and also offers dining destinations at select branches. Fortnum & Mason chairman Kate Hobhouse said, “We have seen significant appetite for the Fortnum’s brand and products in the region, with impressive year-on-year sales growth. Our latest expansion in Asia is an important next step for us, as we extend our reach further across the world.”

The retailer also revealed that it expects the opening to bring 90 new jobs to the city.
