With the general election just around the corner, party leaders have been out and about in towns and city across the UK, in a bid to spread their campaign messages and secure voters.

And while a heated debate rages on about who should take up the keys to 10 Downing Street on June 8, there’s one key part of the campaign trail that will bring a smile to the face of even the most prolific of political ranters on Facebook.

#ElectionDogs of all shapes and sizes have been out in their droves to greet party leaders in local communities over the past few weeks. And while scathing verbal attacks have been launched from party to party, these four-legged companions have been all but too happy to diffuse the democratic tension.

In Great Yarmouth, Jeremy Corbyn spared a moment to pose with Cody, a short-haired sausage dog on the campaign trail, while party supporters pinned their rosettes to their dog’s collars in anticipation of meeting the Labour Leader.

In Cambridge, Tim Farron made a beeline for an adorable blonde cockapoo called Bonnie, while campaigning at the Eastfield regeneration site with party supporters.

Plenty of the democratic dogs, like Bonnie, got slightly soggy in the rain, but in true canine style they’re just happy to be part of the process - wagging tails and floppy tongues included.

On election day itself, eagle-eyed voters traditionally take to social media to share pictures of some of the cutest canines that have descended on local halls and churches - firing up the #DogsAtPollingStations hashtag.

But if you’re still trying to work through the political quagmire of where to cast your vote on June 8, take a breather from all that internal debating to admire some of the cutest pups on the campaign trail so far.
