Today we celebrate International Womens' Day and all the things women have achieved thus far and continue to do so.

Last month marked 100 years since the first women in the UK were granted the right to vote - something we owe to the Suffragettes.

The campaign which saw women repeatedly fighting and risking, or in the case of Emily Davison, losing, their lives for equality is one of the most powerful movements there’s ever been and today, their fight continues to inspire and inform people to strive against inequality.

Below, are some of these women’s words, which continue to resonant today...

“Trust in God: She will provide.” - Emmeline Pankhurst

“Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less.” - Susan B. Anthony

“In the true married relationship, the independence of husband and wife will be equal, their dependence mutual, and their obligations reciprocal.” - Lucretia Mott

"I know that women, once convinced that they are doing what is right, that their rebellion is just, will go on, no matter what the difficulties, no matter what the dangers, so long as there is a woman alive to hold up the flag of rebellion" - Emmeline Pankhurst

“The best protection any woman can have... is courage.” - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

“I would have girls regard themselves not as adjectives but as nouns.” - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

“What draws men and women together is stronger than the brutality and tyranny which drive them apart.” - Millicent Fawcett

“Remember the dignity of your womanhood. Do not appeal, do not beg, do not grovel. Take courage, join hands, stand besides us, fight with us.” - Christabel Pankhurst

"The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls. Every truth we see is ours to give the world, not to keep for ourselves alone, for in so doing we cheat humanity out of their rights and check our own development." - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

"Deeds, Not Words” - Emmeline Pankhurst
