Welcome to the new interior metallics, which have taken their inspiration from the catwalks — including Burberry’s resplendent S/S13 shows — and are now marching straight into our homes.

It’s a lovely, fun trend distinguished by strong shimmering colours and sharp design in everything from lighting and tiles to fabrics and furniture. Tom Dixon, the designer who has made beaten bronze bowls and copper lighting cool, has just launched a hand-blown, glittering blue glass pendant light inspired by “molten globules of glass from the furnace”, while LA-based designer Daniel Ogassian has created a range of show-stopping gold glazed ceramics tiles with 3D surfaces for Ann Sacks.

According to interior designer Amy Hardman, clients love her metallic-painted cabinets because of the light reflective properties of the paints, which are subtle and not too glitzy.

Let’s not forget Pooch, either. Italian designers B.Pet — think B&B Italia for animals — has introduced the outrageously kitsch but undeniably stylish Bubble Bed in silver or gold, and Jasper Conran is reported to be bringing out a metallic-inspired homeware collection for Debenhams this autumn.

Burberry has, of course, matched its catwalk collection to a range of leather iPad cases, in every colour you can think of, with a gleaming blue alligator skin version available for a mere £5,000.
