London style hotspot: Kitchenette, 200-204 Putney Bridge Road, SW15

This popular Istanbul eatery has ventured to London for the first time
Turkish delight: An affordable taste of the Mediterranean with cool design features
27 June 2014

The look: Turkish delight. Traditional Mediterranean eatery with an outdoor terrace, earthy interior colours, mirrored walls with ample lighting and soft furnishings from Turkish markets to capture the restaurant's Istanbul roots. A food display island at the centre of the restaurant, surrounded by timber floors and handmade tiles, gives the venue a very homely touch.

Who’s behind it? TAG Restaurant Holdings. This is the first London venture for the company who have 24 other outlets in Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan.

Traditional touches: little details enhance the decor

What should I try? The mezze platter for two is a must. Nibble on the hummus, ezme, vine leaf dolma, beans pilaki, baba ganush and falafel. The chicken schnitzel is labelled as the “best-selling dish in Kitchenette, Istanbul” so it makes sense to try the citrus, herb and parmesan crumbed chicken breast, with rocket and tomato salad for main. The pan fried sea bass or grilled salmon served with giant cous cous is also delicious. Go for the baklava and Turkish martini cocktail for dessert.

Delicious: the mezze is a must

Go there if: You want to try traditional Turkish cooking with a modern Istanbul-inspired twist. The friendly staff will make you feel at home.

Cheque out: Expect to pay around £45 per head for a three course meal and a cocktail.

Cool and contemporary: the restaurant has a laid-back vibe
Statement pieces: the bold, brass entrance caught our eye
