Singles Awareness Day 2019: What is it and why celebrate the antidote to Valentine’s Day?

There must have come a point in the days running up to Valentine's Day when non-coupled-up folk began to understandably feel left out.

To fill the gap, we've embraced new-age concepts such as Galentine's Day, marked on the day before Valentine's Day during which women celebrate women.

For those who treat Valentine's Day with general disdain, there's Singles Awareness Day (yes, really), also known as Singles Appreciation Day. Ironically (or cruelly, depending on how you look at it), it has the acronym of SAD.

What is Singles Awareness Day?

The antithesis to Valentine’s Day, Singles Awareness Day is held the day after V-Day and celebrates all the people who are not in romantic relationships.

Is Singles Awareness Day different to National Singles Day?

Yes and no. Singles Awareness Day is celebrated on February 15 while National Singles Day is celebrated on March 11 in the UK. Yet, both days celebrate the same thing: the joy of being single.

Singles Awareness Day is all about appreciating time with yourself, so here are some things you can do to commemorate the day:

Buy yourself some of your favourite things

Whether you treat yourself to takeout or splash out on some new make-up, that hard-earned cash you make is best spent on you.

Travel somewhere new

It doesn't have to be a grand getaway. Even if it's taking a different route home from work, doing something different can help revitalise your routine.

Write down all the things you love about yourself

It may seem daunting at first but once you get going, you'll surprise yourself with all the things that make you great.

Treat yourself to a pamper day

After a hard day at work, set yourself up a DIY pamper day at home. Take your relaxation levels to the max with a refreshing facial and a warm bubble bath to take your relaxation levels to the max.
