The all-new Ford Mustang, now available to order in Convertible and Fastback form, is sold out until the middle of 2016.

But Ford of Britain boss Andy Barrat said that should not deter those keen to get their hands on the US-bred performance car, priced from £29,995.

“We are now sold out beyond July next year, although that’s not a reason not to go into a dealership and buy one,” he said. “I will do my very best to ensure we look after every single customer in the right way."

The car is available with two engine choices: an entry-level 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol unit and an optional 5.0-litre V8. The former generates 310bhp and 320lb ft of torque and delivers a 0-62mph time of 5.8sec. Ford claims a 35.3mpg average and CO2 emissions of 179g/km. The latter develops 412bhp and 386lb ft of torque, dropping the 0-62mph time to 4.8sec. Fuel consumption is up to 20.9mpg and the emissions figure is 299g/km.

Customers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic, a £1500 option.

With the EcoBoost engine, the Mustang is priced at £29,995, while the V8 version sells from £32,995. These figures are notably lower than rivals including the Audi A5 and the Nissan 370Z.

Ordering the convertible instead of the Fastback will add £1500 to the overall price.

Ford has addressed ride quality issues of the previous models by introducing independent rear suspension. In doing so, it is increasing the car’s global appeal.

In the UK, the standard specification includes performance brakes, 19in alloy wheels, a rear diffuser and LED tail-lights. Inside, the Mustang is fitted with Ford’s Sync2 infotainment system, complete with 8.0in screen and nine speakers.

Within 18 months of launch, the 5.0-litre V8 will get an output boost from its current 412bhp to 500bhp.
