Governors Ball 2019: Kacey Musgraves, Florence Welch and King Princess offered endless festival dressing inspiration

Lacy lingerie, glittering eyelids and all white ensembles reigned supreme

Governors Ball is New York's answer to Coachella and Glastonbury. Every year, cool teens from the tri-state area venture by bus and ferry to Randall's Island, where there are plenty of Instagram opportunities and A-list performers.

Despite the weather this year, which caused a last minute cancellation Sunday night before The Strokes could take the stage, the weekend was particularly stylish, especially onstage. In the crowd, the majority of cool teens opted for jean shorts (affectionately known as jorts), glitter makeup and crop tops.

The glitter was equally prevalent onstage. On Saturday afternoon, Kacey Musgraves opened with "Slow Burn." Fashion's country darling did not opt for a loofah dress, unfortunately. Instead, she appeared in a glamorous rose top and matching jeans, courtesy of the controversial Dolce and Gabbana. Instead of the customary country cowboy boots, she wore for Lucite heels that looked decidedly Kardashian-inspired. But the clear heels were not long for this world - she kicked them off at the end of her set so she could run free with a rainbow flag and celebrate the start of Pride month.

Her heavy gold makeup paired with hot pink glitter eyelids was guaranteed to not melt in the city summer sun - and plenty of concert-goers were emulating her shimmering look. Glitter was found in space buns, cheekbones and even foreheads. Even her guitar strap was glittering gold.

The outspoken "Butterflies" songstress didn't hold back onstage. She talked politics and questioned if "humanity has lots its f****ing mind" before describing how she finds the good in people. "I really do believe that even when it’s the most trying of conditions that love is this little tiny thing that’s going to find it’s way up from the cracks in the sidewalks," she said.

Many of her fans were outfitted for a country concert, complete with cowboy boots and pastel pink cowboy hats. "I know that yee-haw is having a moment but I’ve been yee-haw my whole f***ing life," she proclaimed in regards to the country crowd.

Directly after her set, 20-year-old indie singer King Princess proved she's poised for pop stardom, opening with her new single "Cheap Queen." The openly genderqueer artist previously dated The Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg.

King Princess boldly opted for all white (it certainly would have been a mess in the muddy fields of the festival), bright red lipstick and a custom KP jersey. Her band followed suit, wearing all white.

“This is a big hometown show for me,” the singer said to the crowd of almost exclusively cool teens. “I fux with this, thank you,” one loudly proclaimed as proclaimed when "Upper West Side" started. KP grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, near her dad's Mission Sound recording studio.

Saturday night's headliner was Florence and the Machine, which found Florence Welch looking ethereal in Gucci. She offered up Stevie Nicks vibes in 20s inspired lingerie, while barefoot, twirling and racing into the audience.

“It’s just arms and lots of wiggling,” she told the crowd, advising them on how to dance like Florence and the Machine.

She also thanked the fans for their support over the last decade saying, "If I didn’t do music, I would just be so drunk all the time. So drunk in south London."

On Sunday night, there was a bit of chaos as a storm rolled in, but Lily Allen took to the stage before the inclement weather and subsequent evacuation. She embraced the barely-there trend, wearing a sheer lace top sans bra underneath a millennial pink pantsuit. Eventually, she ditched the colorful jacket and went full lingerie look.

Let the ladies of Governors Ball inspire your summertime festival dressing accordingly - whether it's lacy lingerie, glittering lids or red lipstick - as long as you don't channel Florence's barefoot look.
