London Design hotspot: Bob Bob Ricard, W1

Amira Hashish takes a trip to the Golden age of Travel at Bob Bob Ricard
Blue bling: Bob Bob Ricard is loud and proud

The look: This restaurant dons an indulgent and opulent badge with pride. Designed by the late, great David Collins (The Wolseley), this is a bold, bling venue with all the trimmings.

Styled with the Golden Age of Travel in mind, the Blue Dining Room on the ground floor has all-booth leather seating which transports visitors to the Orient Express. Marble table tops, limed oak panelling, hand-printed Japanese wallpaper, mirrored ceilings and an elaborate patterned terrazzo floor enhance the glamour.

The Red Dining Room downstairs merges a red-and-gold colour scheme with distinctive backgammon motifs.

Who's behind it? Russian entrepreneur turned British restaurateur Leonid Shutov. A marketing and advertising background merged with a passion for luxury food, rare spirits and exquisite interiors manifisted itself in his first restaurant, Bob Bob Ricard.

What should I try? Oysters or crab salad to start followed by baked sole with champagne sauce. Beef Wellington for two is also a signature dish, as is the lobster burger. We couldn't resist the BBR Siganture Chocolate Glory for pudding and the Dulce de Leche Crème Brulee is a Russian treat.

There is also a strong wine list. Bob Bob Ricard is the only UK restaurant endorsed to serve Château d'Yquem by the glass. Plus, every table has its own button to press for champagne - yes, really.

Go there if: You want to get dressed up and enjoy a sumptuous night out or a very special date.
