Halloween is one of the most divisive celebrations in the UK. The ghoulish costumes, the garish decorations and the buckets of sweets... they aren't for everyone.

But Halloween in the US is a different kettle of fish. They have adorable dog parades for starters.

Log onto Instagram and you'll discover a new, chic side to Halloween. New Yorkers have been decorating their townhouse porches and steps with artfully placed pumpkin displays. No fake cobwebs and witches brooms to be seen here.

Although millennials in the UK might be carving pineapples instead of pumpkins, the orange gourd still reigns in the Big Apple - albeit styled with autumnal leaves and other elegant details.

So tasteful are these New Yorkers' displays, that influencers have cottoned onto their potential as selfie backdrops and been posing with them. And naturally, such displays have also been seen across the pond in our capital too.

Here's our edit of the most inspiring pumpkin displays which will make Halloween-sceptics rethink its aesthetic potential.
