Scandinavia is said to have some of the most extreme seasons on the planet, which is probably why the seasons have always played a big part in the Scandinavian social calendar and way of living. This, of course, also affects the way Scandinavians decorate and furnish their homes.

Easter is the first such event in the yearly calendar which celebrates the change of a season. Scandinavia is, in general, a pretty secularised society, however Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas still remain very important. In particular Easter is seen as a big celebration of the new season and finally saying goodbye to the very long, dark and cold winter.

Many people will go all out decorating their homes to celebrate spring and Easter. It's not uncommon to change your curtains and tablecloths, to make the home extra spring-y before getting together with friends and family to enjoy a seasonal Easter lunch feast.

In Sweden the 'påskris', which simply translates to Easter twigs, are the main decoration no home will be without. It is, as the name suggests, a large bunch of budding branches in a vase which has been decorated with feathers and paper eggs to symbolise spring and rebirth.

You may not want to take it as seriously as the Scandinavians do, but you can still take a leaf out of their book and make your home feel refreshed for spring – maybe even adding some Easter decorations.
