Talking ’bout our Jenner fixation: Kendall's annus mirabilis

As a fully fledged fashionista and Justin Bieber’s new squeeze, Kendall Jenner is hot on the heels of her big sister Kim and has the annus mirabilis to prove it, says Katie Stalker

When Harry met…

Jenner kicks off 2014 with a bang, enjoying a ride on the relationship roller coaster that is Harry Styles. She claims they are ‘just good friends’, but they get cosy at an Eagles concert and go on dinner dates in Hollywood. In London, she helps Nick Grimshaw organise Styles’ birthday, but flies home heartbroken after he snubs her to watch his ex, Cara Delevingne, walk the Burberry runway. #Awkward

Mid Wintour

That same fashion week Jenner hits the runway at the Giles show, posing with fellow models on her Instagram and captioning the pictures #KendallTakesOver — a sign of things to come. ‘How very dare she?’ screeches the fashion world when the girl they considered a reality TV upstart takes the much-coveted seat next to Anna Wintour on Topshop Unique’s front row. Insiders suggest Jenner and the US Vogue editor have bonded over Sudoku and a Costa coffee while they wait in Newcastle International airport together, their plane having been diverted en route to London; the start of a major Wintour/Jenner love-in?

Always the bridesmaid

The world’s hottest wedding since Wills and Kate’s sees Jenner take Pippa Middleton’s crown as most limelight-hungry bridesmaid in history. While Kimye’s nuptial photo becomes the most liked Instagram picture ever, Jenner remarks how hers is ‘just a simple, pretty dress’, and confesses, ‘I wouldn’t say I was sobbing, but I had tears in my eyes.’ The wedding has a strict no selfie policy, but Jenner makes up for this by Instagramming photos of herself taken later that weekend, including dancing in the moonlight with Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing.

Campaign gain

She becomes a face of the sultry Givenchy A/W 2014 campaign. Givenchy head Riccardo Tisci created Kim’s wedding dress, but it’s her little sister who really catches the designer’s eye. She is also invited to Tisci’s 40th birthday extravaganza in Ibiza in August, where she parties with Kate Moss, and her mum Kris uploads a photo of Jenner clinging to Naomi Campbell. The girl knows how to work a room.

Cover girl

After Kim’s slog to bag a Vogue cover, Jenner waltzes on to the front of Teen Vogue’s September issue and models for a US Vogue shoot. She also teams up with little sis Kylie on a young adult novel called Rebels: City of Indra: The Story of Lex and Livia, while Kim’s book, Selfish, features 352 pages of selfies. Could Kim be losing her kool?

Runway success

At New York Fashion Week rumour has it that jealous models put cigarettes in Jenner’s drinks because they resent the newcomer’s popularity. Bothered? Jenner walks in Chanel’s Paris catwalk/feminist ‘protest’ like a seasoned pro. Sonia Rykiel and Balmain also sign her up and she is front and centre for Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan show, leading the pack in bejewelled hot pants.

Better Belieb it

Rumour has it she’s set to get her dream job as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. But first she’s dealing with being at the centre of a bust-up between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Turns out Jenner and Bieber first canoodled at Coachella in April, then at Tisci’s party in Ibiza; now they’ve had a date in Paris. Gomez unfollows Jenner on Instagram (way harsh); the loved-up ones respond by posting pictures of themselves nuzzling up. Could ‘Kenber’ be the new Kimye? You bet!
