The Crush: Evan Davis

Post-watershed just got a whole lot more watchable
The perfect rebound guy: Evan Davis

Some people have a face for radio, but Evan (just look at him) has the kind of mug we want to see more of. Hurrah, then, that 10.30pm is now officially not too late for another glass of wine, because we get to say ‘Hello, hellooo’ to the dreamy Mr Davis on Newsnight. Even while grilling the Prime Minister on modern Conservatism he can’t stop ‘smizing’ (smiling with his eyes) and looking like a ‘fun dad’ at a parents’ evening. We had a long-standing pash on Paxo all the way through Beardgate, but our feelings for Evan are all new and exciting — he’s the perfect rebound guy. Simply by not barking the same question at guests 12 times, and not being an irascible grump, he’s made us wonder what we ever saw in Jeremy.

Our new favourite anchorman is no pushover, mind; he’s got the smarts to outwit bumbling politicians and smooth-talking spin doctors. He’s also down-with-the-kids enough to cope if the producers ever throw Dizzee Rascal at him. No surprise, then, that on weekends Evan wears fistfuls of silver rings and skater chains and rides a Yamaha R6 around Earls Court, where he lives with his dishy French partner Guillaume — what we would give to take a Sunday stroll, croissant in hand, with the couple and their whippet, Mr Whippy.
