For flashing the cash

Mash

An American steakhouse by way of Denmark, this restaurant is huge, grand and sleek. The Five-Dollar Shake (£9.50) is based on a drink ordered by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. Made with bourbon, amaretto, vanilla ice cream, popcorn and salted caramel, it’s rich and very decadent.

For a big night out

Burger & Shake

The Ovaltini (£6.50) isn’t going to help you fall asleep, since it contains a fairly bracing combination of tequila, rum, malted caramel and coconut. Grab a booth and start off with a portion of hot buffalo (chicken) wings and blue cheese sauce (16 pieces for £9.50) and maybe squeeze in some mac ’n’ cheese alongside your burger.

For retro tunes

The Love Shake

This little 1950s-style diner morphs into a buzzy bar in the evening and is the perfect spot to sample a hard shake. It only seats 35, so get there early to secure a red leather booth and order The Mars Attack (bourbon, peanut butter, toffee, chocolate and ice cream, £8.50) or The Old Bailey (Baileys and ice cream, £8.50).
