Launched exclusively at Selfridges this week is a brand-new cheese, burrata with gorgonzola dolce. Burrata is a cow's-milk mozzarella with added cream, and for this new variety, gorgonzola cheese is added in with the cream during the production. The result is a cheese that looks like a mozzarella but when cut, the centre oozes out. It's produced in Puglia by master cheesemaker Caseificio Maldera on a Monday and flown over to the store on Tuesday, so it couldn't be fresher. £6.95 per 250g (www.selfridges.com).

Next Sunday is Mother's Day and what better treat can there be than handmade chocolates? Chocolatier Jessica Walker (www.jessicawalkerlondon.co.uk) creates everything from truffles to chocolate high heels, all in shoe and hatbox-style packaging. This spring, she's teamed up with Australian fashion designer Leona Edmiston for a range of chocolates inspired by Edmiston's vintage-feel collections, available exclusively at Leona's Westfield boutique (0844 8000 677).

Brown Brothers Orange Muscat & Flora is an aromatic sweet wine, perfect to accompany any Mother's Day pudding. Floral in flavour, this is a light, fruity dessert wine with aromas of orange blossom and undertones of orange and raisin. I recommend trying it with poached rhubarb or a plum fool. Find it at all good wine retailers (www.brownbrotherswine.com).

CHOCOLATE BISCUIT CAKE

Konditor & Cook, £1.95 per slice (www.konditorandcook.com) A faultless combination of biscuit, chocolate and fruit with a heavenly texture and wonderful nutty flavour.
STAR BUY

Villandry, £1.85 per slice (www.villandry.com) Decadently chocolatey tiffin bar, but too soft, with a mousse-like consistency and not enough crunch.

Partridges, £1.35 per slice (www.partridges.co.uk) Chocolate tiffin, more like a caramel shortbread but deliciously light and crispy.
