Ever wanted to escape the London routine? Why not take yourself away to a shed?

Defrost under a roaring fire, tuck up with a blanket and enjoy a warming dram while you snuggle up and watch the wintery nights set in from this wishlist of cosy, quirky sheds from Airbnb and Uncle Wilko (founder of Cuprinol's Shed of the Year competition).

Forget country cottages and secluded yurts, here’s where to get your own slice of dream-like wilderness porn right here in the UK.

Take a secluded garden in the beautiful coastal town of Kirkcaldy, strip out a space and sensitively add a recycled glass cabin with breathtaking views over the Firth of Forth. This wild, rural and cosy paradise features simple and homely interiors with a Scandinavian vibe, and is just a short drive from spectacular and bracing seaside walks at Kinghorn beach and Pettyucur Bay. Guests be warned: you'll have to be comfortable with distinct the lack of curtains.

This corrugated cottage was built in the spring of 1940, around the beginning of the Second World War when Britain felt under imminent threat of invasion, for the Women's Land Army, or ‘land girls', who were young women working in local farms. Inside you’ll find authentic details such as a forties enamelled range with back boiler, utility furniture and Bakelite switches and plugs. In the bathroom is a claw-foot roll top bath and a record player with a selection of LPs from the golden era to get you in the mood.

Sleeps 4-5, £80 per night

Not exactly your average shed conversion, the boatel is quite literally, a bed in a recycled boat. Set in the beautiful Dyfi Valley Biosphere, from the stern you can see incredible views across the beautiful Calder Idris. Close the door, light the candles, pop some kindling in the wood burner and be snug and warm even as the fiercest of storms sweep Snowdonia.

Sleeps 2, £40 per night

Live like a hobbit in this rustic, clean and comfortable bottom-of-the-garden bungalow. Guests can sleep in a beautiful & simple double bed made from locally found driftwood, with access to a separate lounge, bathroom, kitchen and garden. Outside you will discover two further Eco houses, which you can use to relax in. Two totally unique areas, both beautifully made by hand using recycled materials, with spectacular views over the sand dunes and out towards the sea.

Let’s be clear, this short stay is not for the faint-hearted. Its owner has packed out the place with museum exhibits including a grave robbed Victorian skull, a trunk purported to have contained the remains of a murder victim and a feejee mermaid, as well as less scary artefacts such as a rare Oliver typewriter, gramophone, clocks and a magic lantern. This quirky timber dwelling at the end of a rural garden has been built using materials from all over the world. The Aspen used to clad the sauna was collected during a trip to Parnu in Estonia and above the door you can find a shingle from the roof of the first prison in Australia. Inside this wooden hidey-hole you’ll find a comfortable sleeping loft with a double mattress, as well as a cosy log burner and lanterns to illuminate and warm the space. Best of all? Aldeby has no streetlights which means you'll see amazing starry skies at night.

Sleeps 4, £55
