Wednesday is the cheapest day of the week to book flights this year

A new report from Skyscanner also reveals the cheapest day to fly

The post-Christmas blues have well and truly hit and we need a little pick-me-up – which is why January is the busiest month of the year for travel booking.

For the best chance at securing cheap flights, a new report from Skyscanner has identified Friday as being the cheapest day to fly.

To avoid sky-high prices, don’t book your flight on a Tuesday as the report found this to be the most expensive day to fly – and said travellers could save up to 11 per cent on flight prices by switching their departure date from Tuesday to Friday.

The flight booking site also singled out Wednesday as being the best day to book cheap flights – with Monday being the most expensive for flight booking.

It also noted that Friday tends to be the busiest day of the week for travel whereas Sunday is the quietest and that Friday December 20 was the busiest day for outbound flights from the UK in 2019.

Flight prices are set to be cheaper in 2020 too, as Skyscanner noted that economy flight prices are down by 7 per cent year-on-year and long-haul first class flight prices have dropped by 5 per cent.
