Step back in time at the sumptuous Bloomsbury hotel where pooches are given the star treatment...

Style: Luxurious and extravagant, the Kimpton Fitzroy is a throwback to a bygone era. What lies behind the imposing terracotta exterior, beautifully lit at night, will not disappoint. The decor is palatial with multi-coloured mosaic tiled floors, ornate ceilings, dark wood walls, pillars, chandeliers…you get the idea.

Many of the original features were retained during the £85 million refurbishment but with no expense spared, this impressive building has been brought into the modern day, complete with all the luxuries guests would expect from a five-star hotel.

Which room? Rooms vary significantly in size and price, from single 11 sqm rooms to vast suites of 68 sqm. If you can splash the cash, you’ll be hard pushed to find a more appealing setting than a corner suite, which offers lots of space for guests with pets. These suites have it all: a separate living room, two flat screen TVs, multiple seating options, king size bed, roll top bath, rainforest shower, the list goes on.

The neutral tones and modern amenities create a tranquil haven that makes it hard to believe central London is just outside the window.

On the menu: There are a few dining options, although pets will have to stay in the room. Inspired by Victorian London coffeehouses, Burr & Co is the most casual option. Perfect for a coffee or something a little stronger, the food offerings are also really appetising and the pleasingly generous portions for a good price will make this a popular choice.

For something a little more up-market there’s all day dining at Neptune, which is elegant and retro in design. Then there’s the jewel in the crown: Fitz’s cocktail lounge. The plush setting epitomises flamboyance with dark tones, velvet and leather seating, chandeliers and even a giant disco ball. The cocktails are excellent and can be enjoyed with live music at certain times of day.

Best for: Located just besides Russell Square tube station and within walking distance of many of London’s top attractions and parks, this is a prime spot for city lovers who want to be in the middle of it all. Bearing in mind how busy central London gets, a faint-hearted pooch who doesn’t like crowds might struggle but for those who want to get stuck into the action, this is the ideal stay.

Pet perks: Four-legged guests might even expect a little heart-warming welcome treat on arrival. And do make use of the Pet Concierge team who can help point guests in the direction of local dog friendly places or even arrange pet sitting to give humans some time to themselves.

How do I book? Whether you book online or over the phone, let them know your pet will be attending so they can prepare the room accordingly, kimptonfitzroylondon.com.
