The best of Brooklyn: the Wythe Hotel

As ever, New York is brimming with new hotel openings — and all seem to have in common their industrial origins.

Across the bridge from its Manhattan rivals, the Wythe Hotel is a former factory built in 1901 near the riverfront in Brooklyn’s old industrial district of Williamsburg.

Fashionably wearing with pride its original exposed bricks, arched windows and the original cast-iron columns, 72 rooms have beds made from reclaimed pine ceilings and it won’t just be the food that’s locally sourced as the furniture, wallpaper and hip paraben-free toiletries are all made in Brooklyn.

Rooms range from the more basic queen to lofts with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Manhattan, and a private staircase leading to a private, 300-square foot terrace.

The hotel’s rooftop bar is located in a new glass-box extension over the old warehouse, while the Reynard restaurant will serve seasonal fare, beer from the brewery across the road and cocktails. It’s sure to be a huge success as both the restaurant and hotel are the brainchild of a restaurateur behind several of Brooklyn’s best eateries.
