Ever fantasised about booking an overwater bungalow in the Maldives? Of course you have but what about an underwater one? Yes, really.
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is expected to open the Muraka, an underwater hotel room that lies 16.4 feet under the Indian Ocean, on November 15.
The Muraka, which means coral in Dhivehi, the Maldivian language, is estimated to have cost some $15 million to build - and it’s rather impressive to say the least.
With a price tag of $50,000 per night before taxes, guests can expect luxury from start to finish, including daily 90-minute massages, on-call fitness instructors and a private speed boat for the duration of their stay.
Designed by Ahmed Saleem, the director at Crown Company, the structure is made out of steel, concrete, and acrylic, with one level above the water and another level below. Designed for private parties - the bit above sleeps nine guests and has a gym, butler’s quarters, and space for a private security detail. The underwater suite sleeps just two but with the upstairs and the downstairs connected, it’s easy to take it in turns.
Guests are picked up in a private seaplane and then transferred to a private speed boat. Once in the suite, they’ll have four dedicated butlers on hand to attend to their every need. The underwater room itself will allow them to stretch out on a double bed and fall asleep while the tropical sea life swim above them.
