Will the World Cup affect your sex life?

10 April 2012

Football or sex is hardly a dilemma that seems to worry most of England's players: the two seem to go hand in hand.

But as the World Cup takes hold of the collective consciousness in London, it may start to interfere with our bedroom activities. Perhaps, for some, sex will fall to the bottom of the priority list at times when a game is scheduled.

I went to West Hampstead to find out whether Londoners think the World Cup will affect their sex lives this summer.

Maybe
Becky, 26, product manager

I'm not a big football fan but I do enjoy the World Cup, especially if there are hot men to look at. So, who knows — maybe it's not just the players who will be getting all the action.

No
Terry, 34, magician

The quantity should stay static but the quality will be determined by the England performances. A win will conjure passion, while a loss will probably leave me rather limp

Yes
Caspar, 30, finance manager

I imagine a group of 20 Englishmen shouting "England till I die" is a bit of a deterrent for girls looking for some action. Also, it's quite hard to do anything after 10 pints of beer, let alone put in a memorable performance in the bedroom.

No
Laoise, 24, waitress

Being a single girl I'm always playing sex roulette — some weeks you get it, some weeks you don't. I imagine the World Cup won't make any difference unless my friend on benefits wants to celebrate the results of an England game.

Yes
Frankie, 28, lawyer

If it's a toss-up between sex or an England game, at that moment the game is going to win. Got to get your priorities straight. Any other time and it shouldn't cause a problem.

No
Rachel, 28, editor

I've no interest in the football and my boyfriend doesn't care about it much, so things should stay the same. What it will affect is my social life: other topics of conversation will be dead.
