Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts has been charged with lewd conduct over an alleged incident in a parked car with her boyfriend which sparked a race row.

Lucas suggested Watts was the victim of racial profiling because he suspected police mistook her for a prositute.

After the incident, Lucas told KCBS-TV: “[The officer] was asking me questions like, ‘Who is she? How do you know her? Are you together?”

Watts was briefly handcuffed last month after Los Angeles police said she refused to provide identification to officers investigating the alleged offence.

She claims she and her boyfriend were just kissing when officers swooped on the car in Studio City.

But police said officers held the couple after a complaint that two people were “involved in indecent exposure” in a silver Mercedes.

Posting on Facebook earlier this month, Ms Watts said suggestions she had been targeted because of her race had been exagerrated but added: "Clearly racial profiling is a provocative and relevant issue. And yes, in my encounter with [the police officer], I questioned if he knew how many times the cops had been called surrounding race."
