Family of Eddie Kidd 'delighted' as estranged wife is jailed for assaulting him

Jailed: Samantha Kidd, 44, called paralysed husband Eddie a 'f****** spastic'

The family of paralysed former James Bond stuntman Eddie Kidd were celebrating today after his estranged wife was jailed for violently abusing him.

Samantha Kidd, 44, throttled the wheelchair-bound 1970s pin-up as well as slapping, kicking, and branding him a “f****** spastic” during four months of violence.

Kidd, the motorcycle rider’s third wife, showed no emotion as she was jailed yesterday for five months and given a restraining order after admitting four counts of common assault.

Today Mr Kidd’s sister Christine Morris said her brother was relieved the case was over.

The 53-year-old, who has helped look after Mr Kidd in the past, told the Standard: “We are delighted with the sentence and the verdict. It’s not long enough really, but we are delighted.

“Eddie doesn’t want to make anything of it. He has been in a bad place for a long time now and at the moment doesn’t want to say anything.”

Mr Kidd, who grew up in a tight-knit working-class area of Islington, has been confined to a wheelchair since an accident in 1996 and requires full-time care.

The 54-year-old married Kidd, a former actress who starred in children’s TV series Byker Grove, more than five years ago at a star-studded ceremony attended by actor Ray Winstone and controversial illusionist Uri Geller.

Mr Kidd was appointed an OBE last year for services to charitable giving after raising more than £100,000 for various causes by walking the route of the London Marathon in 43 days in 2011.

Brighton magistrates’ court heard how Kidd had pursued “a course of conduct against a man who is suffering with severe disability”.

In one episode Kidd, of Seaford, East Sussex, rained a series of blows on her husband and subjected him to “a barrage of abuse and swearing” after being angered when he woke her up.

Suzanne Soros, prosecuting, said: “He was completely unable to defend himself from the attack from Sam or take any action to protect his face or head.”

Passing sentence at, District Judge William Ashworth told Kidd she was guilty of “repeated assaults on a disabled person”.

He said: “Whatever you felt about his disability, you didn’t shy away from raining six punches on him or slapping, kicking and throttling him so much that you had to be pulled off him.”

In an interview before Kidd was jailed, the stuntman’s sister Sarah-Jane Kidd told the Standard: “They’ve lived a rough and tumble relationship. Eddie always said he was happy about it but I’d don’t know.”
