She gained a double first at Cambridge while treading the boards of student theatre, saying learning her lines actually helped her studies.

Now it seems Genevieve Gaunt’s multi-tasking is paying off, as she looks set to become a star with her latest role — just like her university acting counterpart, Lily Cole.

Gaunt, 23, is soon to appear with Cara Delevingne in a Michael Winterbottom film loosely based on the killing of Meredith Kercher. She plays a character with similarities to Amanda Knox in The Face Of An Angel, inspired by a book about the media frenzy over the trial of Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.

Gaunt, who bears a strong resemblance to the American in early footage from the film, out this year, said: “It’s neither murder nor whodunit. The trial is merely a conduit for other narrative elements.” Gaunt, who went to Godolphin and Latymer School, acted throughout her time at Cambridge, once appearing opposite Cole in The Seagull. The model, 26, also gained a double first.

In an interview with Tatler, Gaunt said: “Acting helped [with studying]. It’s that multi-tasking thing. And learning lines builds muscle memory.”

She got her big break with the role of Draco Malfoy’s girlfriend Pansy Parkinson in the third Harry Potter film.

She told Tatler being selected from 2,000 candidates was “life changing .. I cleared four rounds of mass auditions, then looked up and saw the director, Alfonso Cuarón”. Gaunt, the daughter of actors Fiona Gaunt and Frederik de Groot, will next be seen in Kids in Love, again with Delevingne.

Knox and Sollecito spent nearly four years in jail after they were convicted of murdering Miss Kercher in 2007 in Perugia, Italy. They were freed on appeal but reconvicted this year. Both deny killing Miss Kercher and are lodging new appeals.

The full shoot is in October’s issue of Tatler, on sale September 1.
