Jeremy Clarkson has been given another £1million payout by the BBC for the rights to Top Gear, it has been reported.

The former Top Gear host, who was sacked by the corporation after punching a producer on set, enjoyed the windfall after his company Bedder 6 agreed to sell its stake in the popular motoring show for £15million, the Sunday Mirror reports.

The 55-year-old television presenter's good fortune contrasts sharply with that of his former colleagues Richard Hammond and James May, who have not received a payout because they do not have a stake in the programme.

A source told the Sunday Mirror that the BBC 'earn out' was likely to be the final instalment for Clarkson after BBC Worldwide bought the full rights to Top Gear in 2012.

He said: “As is common practice in such deals the payments were staggered over several years.

“This is the latest, and possibly final, ‘earn out’ that BBC Worldwide have paid out since they bought 100 per cent of Top Gear in 2012.”

The former Top Gear trio last week took to the stage in Belfast for Clarkson, Hammond and May Live - an arena tour which was originally planned as a series of Top Gear Live shows but which has been stripped of the Top Gear branding since Clarkson was sacked.

The tour is set to travel around stadiums in South Africa, Poland, Australia and Norway.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Clarkson has declined to comment on the latest payout, whilst BBC Worldwide said no severance payment had been made.

Speaking to Chris Evans last week in his first interview since his dismissal, Clarkson said losing his job was his "own silly fault", adding that it "could be weeks, months maybe a year" before he plans his next career move.
