Apprentice loser Katie Hopkins has been 'dropped' by producers at This Morning following an ill-timed tweet about life expectancy in Scotland which appeared to make light of the Glasgow helicopter crash.

Tens of thousands of people signed an online petition to strip Ms Hopkins of her regular television slots on the show.

ITV said in a statement: 'We have no plans for Katie Hopkins to appear on This Morning at this present time.

Ms Hopkins has since deleted the offending tweet, which read: "Life expectancy in Scotland 07/08 birth is 59.5. Goodness me. That lot will do anything to avoid working until retirement."

She posted the message just hours after a police helicopter crashed into a Glasgow pub. Nine people have been confirmed dead and 32 people were injured.

She has since apologised for her tweet.

Ms Hopkins also appears as a commentator on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff. The channel is yet to comment on whether she will retain her position.
