Rolling Stones leave Australia after L'Wren Scott's death and cancelling tour

Found dead: Mick Jagger's girlfriend L'Wren Scott

The Rolling Stones were given a police escort today as they left Australia after cancelling their tour following the death of Mick Jagger’s girlfriend L’Wren Scott.

Police blocked roads between the Hyatt Hotel in Perth and the international airport and a police vehicle escorted a motorcade of four cars carrying band members.

Jagger is believed not to have been with the band and has not been seen in public since being told on Monday that the 49-year-old designer had been found hanged at her apartment in New York. Yesterday, a coroner recorded a verdict of suicide.

Last night, drummer Charlie Watts played a jazz session at a Perth club where he said of Jagger: “He’s holding up. He’s okay. He’s not really well. He’s not really here. It was such a shock.”

An Australian TV station reported that Watts told the club’s owner that Jagger had already left Australia on his own.
