Russell Brand has released his own take on Blur's hit Parklife as he hit back at critics mocking his new book.

The comedian turned revolutionary shot a video in which he rails against mainstream politics and blames "our ineffective system and poxy media" for the rise of Ukip.

It comes after social media users used the title of Blur's 1994 hit to poke fun at his latest book, Revolution, in which he sets out a controversial manifesto for power.

Thousands of people tweeted passages from the book followed by the exclamation "Parklife!" after Brand's prose was compared to verses from the Britpop hit.

Lyrics include: "Verbal dexterity plus a street accent is what leads to parody of... PARKLIFE!

"But words used officially can be a dangerous tool that slices through propaganda like a... SHARP KNIFE!"

The video received a mixed response online.

One commenter described it as "just brilliant", but another dismissed Brand as a "cowardly distraction".

The video follows people mocking him online, for example in the below Vine by BuzzFeed's Alan White.
