A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a pensioner who was found dead in her east London home.
Rosina Coleman, 85, who was discovered at her house in Romford on Tuesday, police said.
The retired seamstress lived alone after her retired print worker husband died 11 years ago. Her body was discoveed by a visiting handyman.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was attacked by a doorstep burglar who tricked his way into the property but they have not ruled out that she knew her assailant.
Scotland Yard today appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Paul Considine, of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "Whilst we have made an arrest today, the investigation into Rosina's murder remains ongoing and I continue to appeal for witnesses.

"Every fragment of information is beneficial to our investigation and it is imperative that we gather as much evidence as we can against the person responsible for this horrendous offence."
Neighbours paid tribute to an “incredible person”, who was a regular at local British Legion events.
Jackie Harwood, 72, who accompanied Mrs Coleman to events at the Romford branch, said: “She was always happy, always dancing. She was popular and would cook bread pudding and bring it in for everyone. This is just terrible, everybody is shocked.”
