A 15-year-old girl is among four people charged with the murder of an “adoring” father who was stabbed to death after confronting a group of youths.
Police said a 13-year-old girl who was one of five people arrested over the murder of lorry driver Darren Kelly was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Four others were charged.
Mr Kelly, 42, was said to have been involved in a dispute with a group of youths before being attacked in Basildon, Essex, on Tuesday.
The four people charged include a 15-year-old girl from Pitsea, two 16-year-old boys – one from Pitsea and one from Basildon, and 20-year-old Chris Carroll, also of Pitsea.
The three teenagers cannot be named because they are under 18.
Mr Kelly’s former wife told the Standard this week: “Darren was a loving and adoring father. He was a great dad and doted on [his daughter] Zoe. She is in pieces and I am trying to shield her.
“We do not know why this happened, the police know more but we do not. I have to look after Zoe. We are utterly devastated.”
The four people charged are all due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
