Two people have been arrested after a black cab was stolen with the owner's dog inside.

Harry, a 12-year-old Pomerian-Staffordshire crossbreed, disappeared when the taxi was taken in Leyton, east London, at about 8pm on Monday.

The driver had left him in the car and the engine running while she got out to drop off another dog.

Police rushed to the scene and soon found the animal abandoned nearby, before spotting the car and arresting two men after they tried to flee.

Harry has now been reunited with his owner.

Detective Superintendent Jacqueline Sebire, Acting Waltham Forest Borough Commander, said: "We get many leads on many crimes but this is the best collar we have had."

Two men, aged 40 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
