Police investigating the unexplained deaths of a woman and child whose bodies were discovered at a flat believe them to be mother and daughter.

Officers were called to reports of a "concern for welfare" at the property in Trafalgar Street, Gillingham, Kent, at 5.40pm on Monday.

Police and medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the bodies of the pair were found.

Their deaths are being treated as unexplained as investigators continue to search for clues at the scene, Kent Police said.

A post-mortem examination of the woman’s body is due to be carried out later today, while tests on the child are expected on Friday.

Next of kin have been found, a police spokesman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
