A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed while on her way home from buying fish and chips in east London.

Scotland Yard said the 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH on Sunday. He remains in custody at an east London police station.

It comes after the woman, aged in her 60s, was attacked shortly before 10pm on Friday in Bow.

At the time she was walking along a path running between Legion Terrace and Garrison Road.

Police previously said she had just bought fish and chips on Roman Road and was making her way home.

The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The woman was taken to an east London hospital where she remains receiving treatment. Her condition is not life threatening.
