A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after trying to slash another pupil’s face with a meat cleaver at school, police said.

Police in Brent tweeted a picture of the huge cleaver on Tuesday evening prompting shocked reactions from their followers.

They said the arrest had come following “a dispute” at a secondary school in the north London borough.

Police did not say when the argument took place.

One Twitter user said: “A. Where the hell did he get that from? B. Why did no adult know he was carrying this? C. He needs urgent help from police, social workers, community so as to know this is NOT acceptable.”

Another added: “The most dangerous thing I took to school was a well sharpened pencil.”

While a third commented: “The world has gone mad. That’s crazy.”

Chancellor Philip Hammond announced a £100 million fund to tackle knife crime in his Spring Statement, but the chair of the Police Federation said it was “nowhere near enough.”

John Apter said the extra government money has “got to be welcomed” but added that the figure falls short of what is needed for a solution.

Nathaniel Armstrong, 29, was the latest person to be stabbed to death on Saturday night in Fulham.

Seven people were injured on Monday after a knife brawl in a Southall restaurant, while two more were knifed on Sunday.
