A schoolboy was “speared” in a knife attack in front of terrified young children outside a London primary school.

The 15-year-old victim was left fighting for life after being stabbed twice with “very large knives”. One blade penetrated his body and came out the other side in the suspected gangland ambush.

The horrific attack was witnessed by children as young as four leaving St Mary’s Roman Catholic School in Clapham at the end of the school day. The victim was not a pupil at the school.

A team of eight police officers and a sergeant were posted at the schoolgates to reassure parents, children and staff following the incident in Worsopp Drive on Thursday November 19.

In a letter sent to families, Inspector Dan Rutland of Brixton police said: “The attack was extremely serious and is being treated as an attempted murder.

“The victim was stabbed twice with very large knives and it is believed one of the stab wounds actually entered the front of his body and exited the rear.

“He is currently in intensive care and is expected to remain in hospital for the foreseeable future, however his condition is stable and the injuries are not currently believed to be life threatening.”

Officers believe three male suspects arrived in a vehicle - said either to be a silver Volkswagen Golf, BMW, or Mercedes - before the attack.

In his letter, Inspector Rutland added: “No motive or precursor are known at this stage and there is no intelligence that a further attack is likely.

“The incident took place as many children were leaving the school, and it is anticipated there will be a number of witnesses.”

The attack happened at about the same time as a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in Kingsdale Foundation School three miles away in Dulwich.

Ten days earlier a gang of youths burst into Southfields Academy school, three miles away in Wandsworth, and stabbed a pupil in the lobby.

There is no suggestion any of these attacks are linked.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “An investigation by Lambeth Borough officers is underway into the circumstances of the incident.

“There have been no arrests at this time and enquiries continue.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information can call police in Lambeth via 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
