A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a man was stabbed on New Year's Day, police said.

Scotland Yard said a man in his 20s suffered "a number of stab wounds" after he was knifed in Pomeroy Street, New Cross at around 6.40pm on Thursday.

The victim was taken to a south-east London hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Met police spokeswoman said: "Officers attended the scene where a man in his twenties was found suffering a number of stab wounds.

"A 16-year-old male has been arrested on 2 January and is currently in custody at a south-east London police station. Enquiries continue."
