A teenager has been jailed for 15 years after he raped a woman on a footpath in broad daylight.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attacked his 48-year-old victim as she walked along the path close to Esher Road, Surrey.

Police described the horrific sexual assault on the afternoon of June 27 last year as a "planned attack".

The boy only fled the scene after the victim screamed for help, police said.

At Guildford Crown Court today, he was told jailed for one count of rape, one count of attempted rape, one count of sexual assault by touching and two counts of of assault by penetration.

He initially denied the charges against him but later changed his plea to guilty at court.

Detective Constable Annette Bridge, who led the investigation for the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said the attacker had not shown any "genuine remorse" since his arrest.

She said: “The boy not only planned his attack but then initially denied his guilt by providing two different and clearly thought out defences which were totally untrue.

"Not once throughout the investigation did he show any genuine remorse and he only pleaded guilty when the weight of the evidence literally left him with nowhere else to go."

She continued: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim for her bravery throughout the investigation and although she was spared from giving evidence in court, she had to endure a lengthy procedure in which she provided numerous statements and medical samples and had to participate in an identification parade.

"This was all despite the gruelling ordeal she had suffered, which the judge described today as “perhaps the worst nightmare of any woman”."
