A Briton was in hospital in Tenerife today after been attacked by a knifeman outside a pub.

The 22-year-old man is said to have come close to bleeding to death after having his throat cut on the terrace of O’Neill’s pub in Las Veronicas shopping centre in the holiday resort of Playa de las Americas.

Police were still hunting the knifeman, who is also believed to be British.

The unnamed victim told police in an initial statement he was having a quiet drink with a female friend when his assailant attacked.

He said he had never seen the knifeman and had no idea why he had been targeted.

Detectives are still probing the incident, which happened just after 1am yesterday.
