A Gunman who shot a 19-year-old university student who was trying to protect his friends following a night out in Brixton is facing years in jail.

Leslie Ammah, 23, shot Ashley Toppin-Hector because he had stopped him chatting up a group of girls outside the South Beach bar in Brixton Hill.

The victim was leaving the bar in the early hours when he noticed that two of his friends were being hassled by a group of men. Mr Toppin-Hector intervened but during the confrontation one of the group pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

The bullet hit the student in the stomach but barely penetrated the skin. Ammah and his friends fled after the incident in September last year but he was arrested in January. He was found guilty at the Old Bailey of assault and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and will be sentenced in April.
