A teenage boy has been sentenced after for damaging a police car during an unlicensed south London street party that saw clashes break out between officers and revellers.

Twenty-two police officers were injured and two needed hospital treatment after officers attempted to break up the illegal music event on the Angel Town Estate in Brixton on June 25.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was one of two to be charged with violent disorder following the event.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Thursday where he was handed a six-week curfew.

The curfew stipulates that the teenager must be at home between the hours of 8pm and 5am. He was also handed a Youth Referral Order, exclusion requirement from the Angel Town Estate and ordered to pay a fine totalling £107.

By 2am in the morning on the next day, the scenes had become violent and the 16-year-old boy became embroiled with the crowds who were attacking police cars and assaulting police officers.

CCTV and social media footage showed the teenager breaking a police vehicle’s window by striking at it with a table leg. He was also seen throwing items at a police vehicle in the estate.

Home Secretary Priti Patel decried the “utterly vile scenes” on Twitter. Boris Johnson also condemned the "appalling" violence.

"Violence against the police will not be tolerated,” said the Prime Minister's official spokesman.

PC Rob Bowyer, investigating officer, said: “It cannot be right that police officers were subjected to horrifying levels of violence for trying to shut down an event which puts the safety of those attending in serious risk.

“I am pleased that this youngster had been sentenced. Our investigation into the offences which happened that night continue and I fully expect more arrests and prosecutions to follow.”

Police originally said 15 officers were wounded in the chaos, before raising the figure to 22.

None of them suffered serious injuries, although two required hospital treatment.
