Footballer Carlos Tevez has dodged completing 250-hours of community service by paying a £3,000 fine.

He completed just 28 hours of the sentence, which was imposed for several driving offences earlier this year.

Tevez’s lawyers argued that he was unable to complete his punishment after transferring from Manchester City Juventus in Italy last month.

Yesterday, a district judge sitting at Macclesfield magistrates’ court fined the £250,000-a-week Argentine striker £3,000 in lieu of finishing his community service.

This equates to about 30 minutes work for Tevez on the pitch, based on a 40-hour week and his rate of £6,250 an hour.

Tevez, 29, was not in court.

His legal team was told he faced a £5,000 maximum fine for a “technical breach” of the order, but was given a £2,000 reduction for pleading guilty and the 28 hours work completed.

The work was undertaken at a community garden centre in Macclesfield that helps adults with learning difficulties.

Tevez’s lawyers argued the order was impossible to complete after he was sold to Juventus.

He was disqualified from driving for six months and handed a community service order in April after admitting driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Judge Bridget Knight said: “This is only a technical breach.

“It is not, I repeat not, a case of a footballer thumbing his nose at a court order.”

In a statement, Tevez said: “I would like to thank the court for its understanding."
