A Mercedes driver repeatedly tried to run over four south east London officers before ramming their car, police say.

Officers from the Grove Park Safer Neighbourhood Unit were in an unmarked vehicle when they spotted the Mercedes near Catford's Forster Memorial Park in the early hours of this morning.

The four plain clothes officers, who were wearing police vests, decided to investigate but, when one of them flashed his warrant card, the driver reversed and slammed into a wall, it is claimed.

Police say the man then drove at the officers several times, sending them diving out of the way.

It is also claimed he rammed their vehicle during the attack.

No officers were hurt during the incident, which happened at around 12.25am.

A man, aged 20, has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH and is currently in custody.
