This is the first picture of a man “with a heart of gold” stabbed to death close to his home after an apparent row over a cigarette.

Alex Scott, 26, died in Lee on Sunday night after he was reportedly attacked by two youths as they argued after they had said he could not have a cigarette.

Friends and family today paid tribute to “a loyal and protective friend”. His sister Charliee Scott wrote on Facebook: “RIP to my big brother Alex Scott. I love you so much, and I will miss you forever, my heart is breaking, you will forever be in our hearts.”

Tara Walker wrote: “You had a heart of gold and a lot to give. I hope who did this rot in hell.”

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or police on 101.
