A man has died after being shot near a parade of shops in north London.

The victim, aged his 40s, was found with bullet wounds close to Mount Parade, Cockfosters, just before midnight.

Paramedics battled to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 15 minutes later.

The parade of shops, located in a residential area just off Edgeworth Road, is home to an Indian takeaway and a supermarket.

Police said they were called to the area of Barnet, north London, after reports of shots being fired.

A statement said that the man’s next of kin are being informed and formal identification and a post mortem are scheduled to take place in due course.

The statement said that the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command have been notified but no one has been arrested.
