A teenager today dramatically pleaded guilty to murdering a schoolboy he met online.

Breck Bednar was found dead 30 miles from his family home in Caterham, Surrey.

The 14-year-old was found with a neck wound at a flat in Grays, Essex, in February.

Lewis Daynes, 19, was charged with murdering the churchgoing teenager and maintained his innocence until this morning.

Breck's US-born parents, millionaire oil futures trader Barry Bednar, 49, who works for investment firm Tandem Partners and teaching assistant Lorin LaFave, 47, were in the public gallery at Chelmsford Crown Court as Daynes stood up in the dock and entered a guilty plea.

Ms LaFave broke down in tears and was comforted by family members during the brief hearing.

Daynes, a computer engineer, is accused of meeting the computer games fan online.

Breck disappeared after telling his family he was going to stay at a friend’s house a few streets away.

It is instead believed he went to meet a stranger he played video games with online.

Breck, who went to St Bede’s School, a Christian comprehensive in Redhill, Surrey, Following his death his parents warned of the dangers of the internet.

On the day of his funeral in March, the couple, who live in a £600,000 home in Surrey with their three younger children, said “Today, as we say our farewells, Breck’s life can be celebrated in other ways. In his honour, we have established a charitable foundation, the Breck Bednar Foundation.

“We urge anyone with an interest in helping young people safely use the internet to become involved in this important cause."
